SEND Inclusion Award

What is the SEND Inclusion Award?

The SEND Inclusion Award offers mainstream schools the opportunity to gain accreditation for high-quality provision and outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Schools are required to reflect on and improve their provision in line with a series of objectives that fulfil both Ofsted criteria and the SEND Code of Practice*. Specifically, the award focuses on ‘outcomes’ for pupils and how schools can demonstrate the impact of their SEND provision. The award leads schools through a process of self-evaluation, action planning and evidence collection before final verification and accreditation. The award will help schools develop high-quality SEND provision throughout the school.

SEND Our working group

There is a dedicated working group who are collaborating on the SEND Inclusion Award which includes:

SENDCO, Deputy Headteacher, Chair of Governors, Parent

This working group meets fortnightly to gather evidence for the award; analyse our current practice and discuss improvements we can make to our SEND provision.

Achieving the award

We are very pleased to let all of our parents know that we achieved the SEN Inclusion Award in June 2023. This award will now be maintained by the school until June 2026. The assessment process was vigorous, with the requirement of a full portfolio of evidence to be submitted, to allow the process of achieving the award to be verified. On successful completion of the portfolio, Mrs Boom and Mrs Booth attended a full morning of on-line assessments which included a detailed presentation to the external assessor.

We are very grateful to our working group who worked together for 18 months to plan and achieve the award.  The working group was led by Mrs Booth (Senco), Ms King (Deputy Head), Mrs Wise (Chair of Governors) and Mrs Yates (parent).

The learning and feedback from this award has positively impacted our SEN provision in school and we are incredibly proud of our achievement.
