Welcome to our year 6 class page. Year 6 consists of: Kestrels, taught by Miss Sleightholme, and Cormorants, taught by Mrs Gavin.

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

As we begin 2024 and our second term in Year 6, we will take a moment to reflect back on the successes of the previous term - before getting the children to set new goals for the weeks ahead.

We will continue to prepare the children for their SAT tests, by practising times tables, reading and refining arithmetic skills. We will revisit decimals and measurement, before learning about: word problems, percentages, ratio, algebra; area and perimeter.

In English, the children will be learning about Anne Frank. They will study her diary entries, so they can write a diary entry from her perspective. Following this, the children will learn about Ernest Shackleton, The Suffragettes and Charles Darwin. This term, the children will be writing for a range of purposes and audiences.

We will be staying active in PE by playing basketball and creating carnival dances in the hall. A visiting artist will join us for a workshop on Wednesday 14th February. In addition to this, the children will explore mark making and the chiaroscuro technique during art lessons. We will be learning about WW2 in history and where our energy comes from in geography.

We can’t wait to get learning - Do it right, Do it well, Do it!
