Hello and welcome to Year 6!
Year 6 consists of two classes - Cormorants, which is taught by Mrs Gavin, and Kestrels, which is taught by Mr Godbold. We are both sports enthusiasts, huge Ipswich Town fans and Mr Godbold loves magic!
This year, we will be taking every opportunity to do it right, do it well and do it! Year 6 is just a stepping stone away from high school so we want to equip the children with all the skills they will need to be able to step confidently into their next educational adventure.
Over the course of the year, we have a wonderful range of topics in store for us. We will be diving into the world of Charles Darwin, as we take a look at his exploration of the Galapagos Islands. We will then deepen our knowledge of world events by looking at the brave work of The Suffragettes and the bold artwork of Frida Kahlo. We end the year with a look behind the magic curtain of the award winning story of the Nowhere Emporium. We will use these engaging topics as stimuli for a wide variety of writing styles and we look forward to developing the skills of spelling and grammar along the way.
We will consolidate all of our knowledge of mathematics this year, while adding to our repertoire of skills and methods. We will dive deeper into reasoning questions and master the strategies of division and multiplication in a variety of scenarios.
Year 6 is a year of growth and responsibility. Expectations are higher than ever as we are the role models of the school. We truly can not wait to get started and we hope that you are ready for the adventure that lays ahead.
