Welcome to our year 5 class page. Year 5 consists of 2 classes: Swifts, taught by Ms Butler, and Kingfishers, taught by Ms Whitmore. You might not know that Ms Whitmore loves all things Ipswich Town and never misses a game! Ms Butler loves tennis and never misses the Wimbledon finals!
All of our learning will be underpinned by our school curriculum drivers: ‘Planet Earth, Mastery and Every Opportunity’. Our school value ‘belief’ is also essential in supporting you to succeed and be prepared for the following year (Year 6 KS2 SATs).
Now that you are in Year 5, we will expect you to be our role models and leaders at Cliff Lane. With this comes responsibility: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader” John Quincy Adams.
We have high expectations, including keeping a tidy, calm classroom; reading at home everyday; and taking responsibility for your belongings. We also expect focus, determination and hard work throughout all lessons. You must try your best and be kind to everyone.
In English, we will be analysing a range of high quality texts in order to produce writing that is full of rich vocabulary and literary devices. Throughout the year, we will be reading a range of texts, including Ed Sheeran - A kid with a Guitar and a Goal, The Firework-Maker’s Daughter and many more …
In Maths, we will be perfecting our arithmetic skills and reinforcing our times table knowledge from Year 4 - working to improve our fluency, speed and recall. TTRockStars and Hit the Button will be the online platforms that we will use regularly. We will be working hard throughout the year to cover a range of maths topics, including numbers to 1000,000!
In Humanities, we will be learning about The Alps and the Vikings. Following this, we will explore what life was like in Tudor Britain and how we can look after our oceans. The children will also learn about deserts and the Ancient Greeks.
We look forward to seeing the incredible learning that is going to take place across the academic year, as we embrace our school motto: Do it right, Do it well, Do it!
