Welcome to Year 1 with Miss Barber in Hedgehogs and Mrs Williams in Squirrels.
We love learning indoors and outdoors in Year 1 and we have so much to share with you. Miss Barber and I both enjoy musicals, too, so we may break out into song now and again and teach you some too!
We will enjoy learning about ‘Our Local Area’ in geography, so get your walking shoes out for a trip up Cliff Lane. We also have close links with Paul, who manages the allotments, therefore we will be carrying out fieldwork and learning about nature and habitats to link to our science.
‘Me and the World’ will focus on families, relationships and transitions. Our floor book will be full of your wonderful thoughts and opinions.
Our maths and English work will be full of new learning, plus we will recap on what you already know. We follow ‘Little Wandle’ and our phonics lessons will be similar to what you have been used to. Our English lessons always focus on a book, so start those imaginative thoughts and prepare to be transported into the pages as we act out stories, improve our oracy skills and write about the plots.
We follow Maths No Problem in Key Stage 1; we will work through the books, but we also start ‘journaling’ to ensure your ‘Master’s Glasses’ are in place. This means you fully understand a skill and can explain it. It is great fun to explore maths in a variety of ways, we all learn differently, so remember, bring your ‘Can do’ attitude to Year 1. We are always here if there are any little worries, please do not hesitate to chat to us.
We strongly encourage you to sign up for Google Classroom as soon as you get the link from us; we post homework, clips and learning on there, just like Tapestry, so it is vital you join, please.
